Poppy Seed & Rose Hand Polish
I have extremely dry skin. Dry to the point of cracking, dry skin. To combat this problem, I created an exfoliating, moisturizing, and repairing hand polish, using poppy seed, roses, and other natural ingredients.
To make this polish, you will need the following:
Double boiler.
Mortar & Pestle
Jar to store the polish in.
1/4 Cup of Poppy Seeds
2 Oz of Cocoa Butter
10ml of Vitamin E Oil
Handful/Scoop of Dried Rose Petals
5ml of Rose Absolute
Step One:
After measuring out all of your ingredients and gathering your supplies, take your 1/4 cup of poppy seeds and pour it into your mortar and pestle. Grind gently for about thirty seconds. By doing this you will create a mix of fine and course pieces of poppyseed in your polish. Once finished, set it aside for later.
Step Two:
Bring a pot of water, filled only a fourth of the way, to a simmer and put your double-boiler into the water, allowing it to get warm.
Step Three:
Place your cocoa butter into the double boiler, and allow it to melt.
Note: Don't turn up the heat so high that your cocoa butter becomes bubbling hot. Keep the heat on medium.
Step Four:
Once the cocoa butter has melted, add the vitamin E oil. Stir or swirl to help blend the two together.
Step Five:
Add the rose petals to the double-boiler, and stir them into the mixture.
Step Six:
Add the poppy seeds and, again, stir.
Step Seven:
Add the rose absolute.
Step Eight:
Remove the double-boiler from the heat and allow to cool for 8 minutes, stirring every 2.
Step Nine:
Pour the mixture into your jar and let sit for at least another 30 minutes. It is a good idea to stir the polish every ten minutes or so.
Step Ten:
You're done!
After the polish has set up, and you are happy with the consistency, you can go ahead and use it.
My favorite way to use this polish — the way that works best for me — is to take a chunk, massage it into my hands or across any place in need of moisture, and then wipe away with a warm washcloth.
Now, this polish is a little bit on the greasy side because of the cocoa butter and vitamin E oil, which is why I only use it twice a week, but I really have seen a huge difference in my skin.
Enjoy!
