Capsule wardrobes are meant to simplify our wardrobes and reduce our waste and spending, though lets get something incredibly clear—if you’re gothic in any sense of the word—none of that is happening. You’re gonna buy frilly dresses that you don’t need, and your accessories are going to continue to pile up because at the dead center of every goth girl’s heart is a magpie.

We can however set up a basic capsule wardrobe so we never feel like there’s nothing to wear despite a closet full of clothes.

I curated this capsule with more of a minimalist approach, but I think its a quite suitable foundation for many of us.

I will be doing an accessories capsule as well, but let’s get into this because I’m already tired just thinking about typing this up.

Item No.1: Mesh Top Or Lace Top or Both

Mesh adds a level of gothiness, and while I wanted to choose an actual top— you know you can always do the traditional shredding of nylons leggings to make a mesh top.

I also think having a sheer lace top is a good idea just because it adds more versatility into your wardrobe.

Item No. 2: Turtleneck Top or Bodysuit

I feel like this is something that many of us would find useful, but obviously not everyone is a fan of ye olde turtleneck. This one from Banana Republic Factory is great one though, and if you’re more of a bodysuit kind of person, I’ve linked one of those as well.

Item No.3: Long Sleeve Top : Option 1, Option 2

Kind of goes without saying, that you’re going to need some quality basics.

Item No. 4: Sweater ( Click on the pictures for links!)

You need it. Like, you just do. I really like a charcoal sweater over a black one just to break up a look.

Item No. 5: Graphic Sweater ( Click on the pictures for links!)

Item No. 6: Coat (Click Images for Links)

Jackets, coats, etc. I am personally a jacket hoarder. I love them. Also you can get really incredible jackets at thrift shops. Almost all of my favorite coats are from Goodwill.

With that being said, here are some that I love that are available for purchase.

Item No. 7: One Super Cool Jacket

As a treat.

I think we all need one super cool and kind of wild coat.

Item No. 8, 9, 10: Cardigans (Click Images for Links)

Cardigans are versatile and having them is a must if you’re trying to have a wardrobe that isn’t huge but still yields many different outfits.

Item No. 11: Leggings

I’m not even posting a picture. If you’re someone who likes legging, you already have a favorite pair/brand.

Item No.12: Jeans (Click Images for Links)

I have strong opinions about jeans as the proud owner of a big butt. These are my favorites, for fit and style.

Item No.13, 14, 15: Skirt Variants (Click Images for Links)

Skirt are another great way to make wardrobes stretch, and thats why I have listed three different types of skirts as apart of this capsule. A satin maxi, a pleated skirt, then a variant of personal preference. Obviously, you don’t need the maxi skirt to be satin or satin-like, but I love them so much.

Item No. 16 & 17: Trousers and/or Ponte Pants (Click Images for Links)

I love trousers. I love ponte. They’re flattering. For work, for play, for dinner with friends, they’re great.

Item No. 18: Basic Slip Dress (Click Images for Links)

I cannot stress enough how versatile the standard slip dress is.

Item No. 19: Mesh or Sheer Dress (Click Images for Links)

Once again, these will allow you to make whole new outfits when you’ve hit a rut.

Item No. 20: A Basic But Versatile Dress (Click Images for Links)

Dealers choice! Here are some that I love!
